Get Crafty

As a Mum, I am always looking for creative ways to entertain and educate my daughter.
Here are a few idea's that we love to do.

Hand Washing Games.
Toddlers seem to get their hands into everything.
Heres how to teach them to wash their hands without a constant reminder.
*Fill a tub with soapy water and place it on the kitchen bench.
*Put a toy in the bottom of the tub. *
Change the toy throughout the day to keep it interesting.
Each time your child washes their hands they also get a toy to play with.
*Draw up a card that has a picture of hands under the tap.
Whenever you serve food place the card on top of the plate as a reminder.
*Give a mini-hand massage when you wash your hands together.

 Good Morning Song!

*sing a song to start the day, "Rise and shine" or "you are my sunshine"
It will ease everyone into starting the day with a smile.

 Special Breaks!
 *Go somewhere everyday.
A change of scenery rejuvenated us all and gives us something to talk about and look forward too.
Go to a local park, a trip to the pet shop or a neighbours house.

 Make dressing fun!
*Give your child a few choices of things to wear, kids like to feel as though they are I charge.

Telephone Fun!

*If your child's anything like mine they will be fasinated with your phone,
*Take pictures of family and friends, keep them in a box next to your phone.
*When someone calls show your child the picture so they know who you are talking too.
It can be a fun game to pick a picture and pretend to call.

 Television time!
 * Give your child daily tickets that she can turn in to watch her favorite show max 30 minutes. *Tape a piece of your child's art work over the tv screen when it's not in use SO you won't be tempted to turn it on.

 Reading Tips!

 *P
ick books with clear, easy words that go with the pictures.
*Name the objects in the pictures as you go.
*Find books that bring reading to life. Books about a picnic, visiting nana, a farm, baking a cake.
*Make reading a regular part of your daily bedtime ritual.

 Blowing Game!

*You will need a few straws a light ball and some cheerios.
 *Cause and effect game.
*Blow through the straws and make the objects move.
*This game can be played on the floor or table top.
Let your child feel the air coming out of the straw.
Add a finish line with tape and make it a game.

 Writing Practice!
*You will need a large rectangular pan or tray. Sand, sugar or flour.
Fill the pan or tray with one of the above.
Show your child how to draw lines, shapes and pictures with their fingers. (describe the texture to your child as you go)

 Make your own textured Mat!

*You will need a large piece of contact paper.
*place the sticky side UP.
Collect materials from around the garden and stick them on.
*Make sure you leave a large gab empty around the edge of the contact paper. *Turn it over and stick it to your floor (it will be easy to remove later)
*Your kids will have a great time walking over and feeling the different textures and feel the shapes change when thy step on them.

 My Picture flash cards.

*My kitchen wall is filled with our own flash cards .
*I simply print off pictures of things we use and love to do along with friends nd family.
*Blue tack them to the wall and we point at them and talk about them each day.
*It's also a great way for your child to communicate with you.

Embellish plain sunglasses with sequins, seashells, or confetti hand-punched from colorful paper. Just apply craft glue to the object, then press it onto the frame. (For heavier items, an adult should use craft cement.) Let dry completely before striking that movie-star pose.

This magical bean mosaic is a wonderful activity for kids and adults to do together.

Canvas boards
Small paintbrush
Craft glue
Dried beans
Ruler

Magical Beans Mosaic How-To
1. Start by drawing a pattern in pencil on your canvas board. You can create geometric designs, a still life, or even a portrait in dried beans -- think of it as a color-by-numbers painting.

2. "Paint" a thin layer of glue in one area of your pattern, and sprinkle the area with colorful beans. Use a single color in each area.

3. Use the ruler to tidy up the edges of the beans before moving on to the next area.

4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 until the board is covered. Let dry for 1 hour.
